Breeding at Nocoleche Nature Reserve NW NSW

One male found with four chicks on 22 September 2026 at small claypan / borrow-pit wetland in Noceleche Nature Reserve by Pat Johnston and Joanne Ocock. An excellent spring breeding record following widespread recent rainfall and wetland inundation in the broader region. It emphasises the significant value of the region for Australian Painted-snipe after several of our tracked birds made movements there. Photos by Pat and Jo.

Shining a light on one of the most mysterious species in the world.
