One bird found 15 January 2026 at Crackenback near Jindabyne by Archie Brennan, as reported on eBird: https://ebird.org/checklist/S294457231 with photo. High country records are extremely rare but together with recent records like a Blue Mountains site in 2024: https://paintedsnipe.com.au/2024/11/13/nsw-wentworth-falls/ and one near Cooma in 2023: https://paintedsnipe.com.au/2023/11/08/nsw-near-cooma/ it suggests they move over the Great Dividing Range with some regularity. Coastal influxes during drought support this.

Shining a light on one of the most mysterious species in the world.
